Again… words angering journalists

Two years ago, I wrote and published these coming lines regarding journalism in Egypt, however, a lot of incidents took place… so here I am republishing what I wrote before hoping to find someone in our syndicate and the recently established official councils who might read and care:

“It happened that I have been and still am managing a branch office of one of the biggest Arab newspapers of a Gulf country here in Egypt for more than thirty years… it also happened that I have seen the bad handwritings of many big writers and was able to decipher them… I also revised the articles of tens of journalists whom some of them became stars in media… I also used to reformulate the writings of some of those and almost go mad of the poor Arabic grammar and wrong spellings at some and absence of journalistic integrity at some others!

That’s why I have been and still am calling upon the syndicate of journalists to stand against such illiteracy of all kinds in the field… either journalistic, cultural, political or morale… such thing that went viral in the journalism field and even some are boasting about it considering that since they made it to the chair of editor-in-chief or TV screens – despite their complete ignorance – then that means they are genius and one of a kind!

It also happened many times that I knew many colleagues who were interested in union work of the syndicate, practiced it and even became experts in this… I also met people of the same kind; those who were hosted during the preparations for the elections of the syndicate council or head… here, there is a lot of details I may later write about and publish… from my point of view, of course!

In such regard, I remember when I disagreed to the unanimity of the Nasserist journalists to elect a certain person as head of the syndicate… and the punishment I received was depriving me from writing my periodical article in the Nasserist newspaper of Garidat Al-Arabi… not to mention the insults and defamation that nailed me.

My colleagues in the syndicate of the top leaders and symbols of fighting for the freedom of journalism and public freedoms know what I know about some other figures in the syndicates who enjoy this pre-described illiteracy… they also know about others who have made illegal profits from Hajj and Umra trips, consumer durables, lands, real estates, advertisements, Sheikh al-Fasi, normalization with the Zionist enemy and illegal practices of enlisting secretaries and cronies as members in our prominent syndicate… despite all this and despite recurrence of such cases and bragging in public about such violations of the syndicate’s ethics and morals, the syndicate did not adopt a decisive action against any of those who committed such awful deeds.

I write all this and am ready to give more details while the journalists’ community is going through what can be regarded as real struggle for the freedom of journalism and for maintaining the texts and spirit of the Egyptian constitution in this field since I have always believed that the best and nearest way to defend the freedom of journalism and rights of the journalists’ community is that this community – through the syndicate and by the efforts of its leaders – shall do its fundamental duties… atop of these is retraining hundreds of journalists inflicted with the pre-described illiteracy; proper pronunciation, spelling, grammar, profession rules, cultural, political and even morale illiteracy.

Also above the list of those duties is maintaining discipline of the profession practices in order to prevent journalism from being the open door to stab our country in its security, cohesion, strength, balance and role either on the regional or international domain… we cannot let it be that the journalist be like that surgeon who went declaring that he had to sacrifice the lives of mother and baby for the operation to succeed!

I here wonder with others: when will the syndicate of journalists question those members who consider themselves stars in the media and political work arenas over suspicions that may reach into real facts concerning their fortunes, projects and their connections to media and political capitals either domestically or abroad… also over suspicions of the same level confirming that they combine between working in journalism and working to other entities with opposite interests?

We all are against any deviation from the executive authority over the constitution, even if done by law… we also stand against any tyranny of any kind or degree practiced by any entity that may turn us back to times that yielded all what we witness today of fragmentation, dismantle, destruction and terrorism… so you can imagine the case when such deviation and tyranny is practiced against journalism and freedom of speech… we all have to stand against all what I mentioned about the journalists’ community.

I know that some of those dear to me will get angry because of what I am writing right now… and I can almost hear some of them angrily blaming me: “this is always you… choosing the worst timing to express your opinion as if you want to look different… all what you said is right by the timing is not right at all… you should not have mentioned these faults while the journalists’ community is fighting a decisive battle like this”.

I here say that the battle time is the best time to achieve all this… it provides the best environment to correct faults, to make things right and to get rid of all those not belonging to our profession… moreover, it’s not only about journalists… it’s about the whole country… since our country is going through a battle that is fiercer and more dangerous than any of the ones it had before starting from the invasions of Hyksos, Persians, Greeks and Romans… to the British and Israeli occupations.

According to the same standards, it is not possible that the army, police and the whole people are going through such battle then we find some journalists stabbing our country in the back with false information that discourage those fighters, undermine the will of those resisting, let the public masses question and even lose trust in those in charge of defending our country, its independence, civilization, culture and future… it is also not possible to have such confusing mix between the right to think, express freely, the right to possess information and other rights directly connected to the profession of journalism and between misleading and undermining the security of our country… therefore, the necessary duty of defending the rights of journalism is absolutely connected to the necessary duty of defending our country, its security, civilization, culture and future.

These were words in my mouth that I long refrained from saying… but compared to the enormous challenges Egypt is facing, I had to spit them out.

I believe the real battle journalists and their syndicate should fight is the radical change to amend the journalists’ community into order to eliminate any professional dysfunctionality… and to those who will get angry because of the “timing”, I ask: when was that right time that never occurred during more than half a century of the syndicate life?... why has no one started reforming and correcting in times when the syndicate was not going through any sacred battle?”.

للمرة الثانية.. كلام سيغضب جماعتنا

منذ عامين كتبت ونشرت هذه السطور حول الجماعة الصحفية، وقد جرت في النهر مياه بدرجة أو أخرى، وخوفًا من أن يظل آسنًا، أستأذن في أن أعيد نشرها لعل في نقابتنا والمجالس الرسمية، التي شكلت مؤخرًا من يقرأ ومن يهتم:

"مصادفة أن كنت وما زلت أدير منذ أكثر من ثلاثين عامًا مكتب إحدى كبريات الصحف العربية الخليجية في العاصمة المصرية، ولذلك كانت مصادفة أيضًا أن أستطيع فك شيفرة رداءة خطوط كثير من كبار الكتاب، وأن أراجع سطور عشرات من الصحفيين الذين صار بعضهم نجومًا على الفضائيات فأعيد الصياغة للبعض وأكاد أن أشق الهدوم من صدمة ضعف الإملاء وانعدام النحو والصرف وتلاشي الأمانة الصحفية عند بعض آخر!.. ولذلك ناديت وما زلت أنادي نقابة الصحفيين أن تتصدى للأمية الصحفية.. والثقافية.. والسياسية.. وأيضًا الأخلاقية، تلك التي تفشت في الوسط وصار البعض يتباهى بها، ويعتبر أن وصوله لكراسي رئاسة التحرير ولشاشة الفضائيات، رغم أميته المركبة، دليل على عبقريته وتفرده!

وكان مصادفة لمرة لا أعرف عددها أن زاملت عديدين ممن اهتموا بالعمل النقابي وتمرسوا فيه واحترفه بعضهم، وأن التقي بمن كانوا يستضيفونهم من العينة نفسها أثناء الترتيب لانتخابات المجلس أو النقيب.. وفي هذا تفاصيل ربما يأتي وقت يسمح بأن أكتبها وأنشرها.. من وجهة نظري طبعًا! وفي هذا السياق وارد أن أتذكر مخالفتي ذات مرة إجماع مجموعة من الناصريين على انتخاب شخص بذاته نقيبًا، وكتبت مؤيدًا منافسه، وكانت العقوبة التي أنزلوها على العبد لله هي منعي من كتابة المقال الدوري في "جريدة العربي" الناصرية! عدا عن حملات السباب والتشهير التي لم تترك شيئًا يخصني إلا ونهشته.

يعلم السادة الزملاء من قيادات النقابة ورموز النضال من أجل الحريات الصحفية والحريات العامة ما أعلمه معهم عن قيادات نقابية مصابة بوباء الأمية المركبة إياها.. وعن آخرين طرطش على ملابسهم وأبدانهم رذاذ شبهات الاستفادة غير المشروعة في سفريات الحج والعمرة، والسلع المعمرة والأراضي والعقارات والإعلانات والشيخ الفاسي والتطبيع مع العدو الصهيوني، ومجاملات إدخال السكرتيرات والمحاسيب في عضوية النقابة العتيدة.. ومع ذلك ورغم تكرار الحالات وفداحة المجاهرة بالمعصية النقابية والأخلاقية فإن النقابة لم تتخذ موقفًا حاسمًا رادعًا لأي من هؤلاء!

أكتب هذا ومستعد لأن أفصل بتفاصيل لا حدود لها فيما الجماعة الصحفية تخوض ما قد يرقى لمستوى المعركة الحقيقية من أجل الحريات الصحفية، ومن أجل الحفاظ على نصوص وروح الدستور المصري في هذا المجال، لأنني كنت وما زلت أعتقد أن أسلم وأقرب طريق لصون الحريات الصحفية وحقوق الجماعة الصحفية، هو أن تؤدي تلك الجماعة عبر نقابتها وبجهود نخبتها وقياداتها واجباتها الأساسية، وعلى رأسها إعادة تأهيل مئات الصحفيين المصابين بداء الأمية الهجائية والإملائية والنحوية والخبرية والثقافية والسياسية وأيضًا الأخلاقية.. والعمل على ضبط الأداء المهني بحيث لا تكون مهنة الصحافة هي الباب المفتوح على "البهلي" لطعن الوطن في أمنه ومقدراته وتماسكه وقوته وتوازنه ودوره في محيطه وفي العالم، إذ لا يمكن أن يكون الصحفي هو ذلك الطبيب الذي قيل إنه خرج على الملأ ليعلن أنه ضحى بالأم وبالجنين من أجل نجاح العملية! إنني أتساءل مع السائلين وبحق متى ستقدم نقابة الصحفيين على مساءلة بعض أعضائها ممن يعتبرون أنفسهم نجومًا في سماء الإعلام والعمل السياسي عن شبهات ترقى إلى وقائع حقيقية تمس ثرواتهم ومشروعاتهم وعلاقاتهم بالمال الإعلامي والمال السياسي في الداخل والخارج، وعن شبهات ترقى إلى المستوى نفسه تؤكد أنهم يجمعون بين الخدمة في بلاط صاحبة الجلالة السلطة الرابعة، وبين مسح بلاطات لسلطات أخرى؟!

نحن جميعًا ضد أي جور من السلطة التنفيذية على الدستور ولو بالقانون، وضد أي استبداد من أي نوع وأية درجة ومن أية جهة يعيدنا إلى زمن كانت نتيجته هي ما نعانيه من أهوال تفتت وتفكك ودمار وإرهاب، فما بالك إذا كان الجور والاستبداد موجهين للصحافة وللرأي.. ولا بد أن نكون جميعًا ضد كل ما سبق وذكرته عن أحوال الجماعة الصحفية.

أعلم أن البعض ممن أعتز بهم سيغضب من هذه السطور، وأكاد أسمعه معاتبًا مغاضبًا: "هكذا أنت دائمًا تختار أسوأ توقيت لتعبر فيه عن رأيك فتبدو وكأنك ممن يخالفون ليعرفوا.. كل كلامك صحيح ولكن التوقيت غير صحيح بالمرة.. إذ لا يجوز فيما الجماعة تخوض معركة مصيرية حاسمة أن يخرج واحد منها ليظهر فيها القطط الفطسانة"!

وأقول من ناحيتي إن المعركة هي أنسب ظرف للتطهير والتطهر.. وأنسب مناخ لتصحيح الأخطاء وتقويم المعوج والتخلص من الطوابير الخامسة!!.. ولأننا إذا مددنا الخيط ليصل من أرض الصحفيين إلى أرض الوطن فإننا سنجد أن الوطن يخوض معركة أعتى وأشرس وأشد خطورة من كل معاركه التي سبقت منذ الغزو الهكسوسي والفارسي والإغريقي والروماني، وهلم جرا إلى الاحتلال البريطاني والإسرائيلي، ولا يمكن وبالمعايير نفسها أن يكون الجيش والشرطة والشعب كله في هذه المعركة، وتجد من يطعن الوطن بالمعلومة المضللة، التي تفت في عضد المقاتلين وتقوض عزيمة الصامدين، وتشكك الجماهير وتفقدها الثقة في القائمين على الدفاع عن تراب الوطن واستقلاله وحضارته وثقافته ومستقبله، وأن نجد اختلاطًا وخلطًا معيبًا بين حق التفكير والتعبير والمعلومة وغيره من حقوق وثيقة الصلة بمهنة الصحافة وبين التضليل وتقويض أمن الوطن.. ولذلك فإن مقتضيات واجب الدفاع عن حقوق الصحافة مرتبطة أشد الارتباط بمقتضيات واجب الدفاع عن الوطن وأمنه وحضارته وثقافته ومستقبله..

تلك كانت كلمات تراكمت في فمي، الذي كان ملآنا بالماء، وأنتم تعلمون أن من في فيه ماء يعجز عن النطق.. ولكن أمام ضراوة ما تواجهه مصر كان لا بد من التخلص من أي ماء يعوق كلمة يعتقد صاحبها أنه إن لم ينطقها فإنه شيطان أخرس.

إنني أزعم أن الجهاد الأكبر للصحفيين ونقابتهم هو السعي الجذري لإصلاح الجماعة الصحفية، بحيث لا يبقى فيها عاهات مهنية وإعاقات بشرية.. وبعد إذن الذين سيغضبون بسبب "التوقيت" أسألهم متى هو التوقيت المناسب الذي لم يأت عبر أكثر من نصف قرن في حياة النقابة، ولماذا لم يقدم أحد على الإصلاح والتصحيح في فترات لم تكن فيها النقابة تخوض معركة مقدسة؟".

Welcome Pope

The Bishop of Rome; successor of Saint Peter the Apostle, arrives at Egypt after tomorrow. He insisted on going on his pre-set visit despite the heinous incidents that took place in Tanta and Alexandria. His Holiness regarded such incidents as crimes committed against humanity and not only against Egypt alone. In my opinion, the visit of the Holy See to Egypt awakens the spirit of giving and sacrifice in us as believers in one God. It also revives in our conscience the course of faith spirit that our country long participated to thousands of years ago.

Here in Egypt, we have the Seat of the Coptic Orthodox Pope of Alexandria, commonly known as the Holy See of Saint Mark; one of the seventieth apostles or disciples as the Church of Alexandria comes after that of Rome in the forefront of the five Holy Sees in Jerusalem, Antioch and Constantinople, if I am not mistaken.

Saint Mark accompanied Saint Peter in Rome then he came to Cyrenaica in Libya... then from Libya to Alexandria... it was said that he wanted to stitch his sole and so he gave it to an Alexandrian Egyptian cobbler... but the awl jabbed the cobbler's hand... he felt pain and said: Oh, God... then Saint Mark asked him: do you know God here?... after this, the cobbler accompanied Saint Mark in his preaching journey... it is known that the Church of Alexandria has played a very advanced role in the course of Christian theology... as its theology was the decisive one in the famous ecumenical council convened in Nicaea in AD 325 as per an invitation by the Roman Emperor Constantine I.

Moreover, the visit of his Holiness to Egypt adds more important aspects to the long-in-time historical one… atop of these is what I may call reinforcing cultural and civilization bulwarks standing against barbarism of all kinds and levels… starting from the meanest and most malicious; that is terrorism committed in the name of God; killing, kidnapping, destroying and abolishing all humane characteristics of the society… to what is barbaric too represented in ways of dealing with migrants who were compelled to displace by terrorism… it was what his Holiness; the Bishop of Rome described as “concentration camps”.

It is also known that Al-Azhar ash-Sharif, the Egyptian popular religiosity and also the Egyptian Coptic Orthodox Church are the cohesive sticking-together courses of bricks forming such bulwark…

Thank God we have scholars in Al-Azhar who know the value of mind and knowledge and who possess an elite human intellect enabling them to form a balanced Dawaa discourse perceived by any enlightened human… thank God too that we have a national church strong in its theology, cohesion and long-in-history loyalty to its country and leadership… thank God again that our Christian-Islamic Coptic national unyielding alloy is still unbreakable despite the massive painful hits we receive and endure with patience only experienced by the Egyptians.

The Christian doctrines diversity in Egypt has become a phenomenon going through a positive turn in its history after periods of skepticism in some aspects… regardless of the details and phases, the role of the Egyptian Catholics and Evangelicals in the national course now is an ever-developing one in many positive fields connecting to building the human, preserving the society and forming humane amicable relationships among all the Egyptians.

In such regard, I still remember with all goodness and affection the role of the congregations of Catholic Sacred Heart of Jesus in Egypt since they were headed by the kind mother Georgette; the most beloved to the hearts of all of us… us here means all who felt her kindness, generosity, tolerance and affection… she along with other revered nuns including “Seer Bodoor” who represents a continual of the morals and virtues of the late revered Mary Georgette.

For many years, we used to have an Iftar in Ramadan in the monastery enjoying the hospitality of its nuns and in the presence of the revered Patriarchal Bishop Dr. Hanna Qalta… this distinguished human and national intellectual with such an enlightened mentality and forgiving soul… we used to hold Maghreb prayers there… we also used to hold rich seminars in an atmosphere of freedom that knows well the meaning of the word and ethics of dialogue… tens of intellectuals; men and women, used to attend, have Iftar and discuss while the whole monastery was cheering with joy as if it was a feast… not to mention the other activities like the committee of justice and peace founded by the Catholic Church… of its rising stars were the dear late friend Eng. George Agaybi, late Dr. Ahmed Abdalla Rozza, late Dr. Salah Abdel-Meta’al and others who are still alive.

A dear welcome from both our minds and hearts to his Holiness; the revered Bishop of Rome… despite all our pains our churches and folks endured, it is God’s will since the first moment of creation that rightness and goodness shall prevail on falseness and evil… may our civilization bulwarks get higher and stronger with the meeting of the Bishop of Rome, Pope of Alexandria and grand Imam of Al-Azhar ash-Sharif.

مرحبًا بقداسة بابا روما

بابا روما الجالس على كرسي القديس بطرس الرسول يصل مصر بعد غدٍ، وقد تمسك بزيارته في موعدها، رغم الأحداث التي جرت في طنطا والإسكندرية، وهي أحداث اعتبرها قداسته جرائم ضد البشرية وليس ضد مصر وحدها!.. وفي اعتقادي أن زيارة بابا روما لمصر توقظ فينا كمؤمنين بالله الواحد روح العطاء والفداء وتحيي في وجداننا المسيرة الإيمانية، التي ساهم فيها وطننا منذ آلاف السنين.

إن لدينا في مصر كرسي القديس مرقص أحد التلاميذ السبعين، حيث تتقدم الإسكندرية مع روما الكراسي الرسولية الخمسة مع أورشليم القدس وأنطاكية والقسطنطينية، إذا لم أكن مخطئًا!

ولقد كان القديس مرقص ملازمًا للقديس بطرس في روما، ثم جاء من هناك إلى برقة في ليبيا، ومن برقة جاء إلى الإسكندرية، ويذكر أنه أراد أن يصلح نعله فدفع به إلى إسكافي مصري سكندري، وفي لحظة أصاب المخرز يد الإسكافي فتألم وقال يا الله، وإذا بالقديس مرقص يسأله: أتعرفون الله هنا؟!.. وبعدها لازمه الإسكافي في مسيرة الدعوة!.. ومعلوم أنه في إطار المسيرة اللاهوتية المسيحية، لعبت كنيسة الإسكندرية دورًا متقدمًا للغاية، وكان لاهوتها هو الحاسم في المجمع المسكوني الشهير، الذي انعقد في نيقيا عام 325 ميلادية بدعوة من الإمبراطور قسطنطين.

ثم إن زيارة قداسة البابا لمصر تضيف للبعد التاريخي العريق أبعادًا أخرى مهمة، في مقدمتها ما قد أسميه تقوية مداميك حائط الصد الحضاري والثقافي في مواجهة الهمجية بأنواعها ودرجاتها، ابتداءً من الأشد والأحقر، وهو الإرهاب باسم الدين، حيث القتل والخطف والهدم وإبادة السمات الإنسانية في المجتمع، نزولًا إلى ما هو همجي أيضًا ويتمثل في طرق التعامل مع المهاجرين، الذين اضطرهم الإرهاب للهجرة، وهو ما وصفه بابا روما "معسكرات الاعتقال"!

ومعلوم أن الأزهر الشريف والتدين الشعبي المصري، وأيضًا الكنيسة الأرثوذكسية القبطية المصرية، هي المداميك المتماسكة في ذلك الحائط، والحمد لله أن لدينا علماء في الأزهر يعرفون قيمة العقل والعلم ويحوزون ثقافة إنسانية رفيعة تؤهلهم لصوغ خطابهم الدعوي الفقهي الرصين، الذي يقبله أي عقل إنساني مستنير، والحمد لله أيضًا أن لدينا كنيسة وطنية قوية بلاهوتها وتماسك بنيانها وعمق إخلاصها لوطنها وقيادته، والحمد لله ثالثًا أن سبيكتنا الوطنية القبطية الإسلامية والمسيحية ما زالت مستعصية على التفتيت والكسر، رغم الضربات الهائلة الموجعة التي نتلقاها ونمتصها بصبر لا يعرفه إلا المصريون.

ولقد أصبح التنوع المذهبي المسيحي في مصر ظاهرة تنحى منحى إيجابيًا بعد فترات من الريبة أحاطت ببعض الجوانب، وبصرف النظر عن التفاصيل والمراحل، فإن دور الكاثوليك والإنجيليين المصريين في المسيرة الوطنية الآن دور دائم النمو في مجالات إيجابية تتصل ببناء الإنسان وصيانة المجتمع، وصوغ علاقات المودة الإنسانية بين أبناء مصر، وما زلت في هذا الصدد أذكر بكل الخير والمودة الدور الذي أدته رهبانيات قلب يسوع في مصر، منذ كانت على رأسها طيبة الذكر الأم ماري جورجيت حبيبة أفئدتنا.. والضمير هنا يعود على كل من لمسوا فضلها وكرمها وتسامحها ومحبتها هي والراهبات المحترمات، ومنهن "سير بدور"، التي تجسد استمرارًا لأخلاق وفضائل الراحلة المبجلة ماري جورجيت.. وكنا ولسنوات متعددة نفطر إفطارًا رمضانيًا في الدير في ضيافة راهباته، وبحضور جناب النائب البطريركي الأسقف الدكتور حنا قلته، ذلك المثقف الوطني والإنساني المتميز صاحب العقل المستنير والروح المتسامحة، وكنا نقيم صلاة المغرب هناك، ونعقد الندوات الدسمة في حرية مسؤولة تعرف معنى الكلمة وتعرف أصول الحوار.. عشرات من المثقفين نساء ورجالًا كانوا يحضرون ويفطرون ويتناقشون والدير مبتهج كأنه في عيد.. ناهيك عن الأنشطة الأخرى مثل لجنة العدالة والسلام، التي أسستها الكنيسة الكاثوليكية وكان من نجومها الساطعين الصديق الرائع الراحل المرحوم المهندس جورج عجايبي، والمرحوم الدكتور أحمد عبد الله رزة، والمرحوم الدكتور صلاح عبد المتعال وآخرون ما زالوا على قيد الحياة أطال الله أعمارهم ومنحهم الصحة.

ترحيب من العقل والقلب بقداسة بابا روما الموقر، ورغم كل آلامنا جراء ما تعرضت له كنائسنا وأهلنا، إلا أن إرادة الله قضت منذ بدء الخليقة أن ينتصر الحق والخير على الباطل والشر، ولعل مداميك حائط الصد الحضاري تزداد علوًا وقوة بالتقاء بابا روما وبابا الإسكندرية وشيخ الأزهر الشريف.

Public libraries… key to renaissance and modernization

While I was reading an article for ambassador and intellectual Mr. Abdel-Ra’ouf ar-Ridi in last Friday’s Al Ahram newspaper edition, I remembered what I read long time ago about the European renaissance and how one of the most important features at the beginning and set off of this renaissance was the efforts exerted by the Medici family that ruled Tuscany and Florence at the beginning of the modern era. This family believed and practiced the civilization and cultural role of wealth and responsibility of managing the society affairs. The princes of this family were famous for assuming such role, atop of them was prince Lorenzo the magnificent about whom it was said that he declared his intention to sell the furniture of Medici family houses to continue building the public libraries in Tuscany and Florence.

Ambassador ar-Ridi wrote about sources of terrorism and focused on the role of public libraries in building the civilization and cultural renaissance in Egypt… and of course the scientific and technical ones… he inaugurated the invitation to start building a thousand public libraries in Egypt… here I excerpt part of his article: “… since Egypt’s situation now is not only deteriorated in the public libraries’ field, but in the field of scientific research… as per the index of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Egypt lies almost at the last rank preceded by all other Arab countries except for Algeria and Yemen… as to the UAE, it occupies the first rank with Jordan following it in the second place”.

From this space of opinion pages of Al Ahram, I agree to this invitation and call upon everyone interested in the renaissance of this country to do the same thing so that this invitation sent by ambassador ar-Ridi can reach president Sisi to support the initiative of building a thousand public libraries in Egypt and issuing a law that makes reading a basic right for every citizen and having a public library a fundamental right for every human community… especially that there are many nations that precede us in such field… for example, there is a public library for every 28 thousand people in India… also, Iran has achieved better than this… and the Zionist state is even more and more advanced in such regard.

In my opinion, the hope in achieving the renaissance of our country in all fields starts by building the citizens’ awareness of their important role in achieving such hope… it is also known that building and increasing awareness is qualitatively and quantitatively connected to culture… we also know that means of reading have developed and that it is now available to have a flash memory, the one you can attach to your keys’ ring, which can hold hundreds of books in all fields… for this reason, I have already called more than once in my writings and TV interviews to start a campaign titled “a flash memory for every class”… this flash memory shall include well-chosen books regarding subjects and level to match the age range of those who shall read them.

I would like also to widen the scope of the invitation to include all the well-offs of Egypt and all civil communities; whether political parties, non-governmental organizations and all their likes in the countryside, desert and small towns to share in a collective work and go to the ministry of domestic development, that our good fortune happened to bring a great scientist and pioneering expert in the scientific and IT field on top of it, to start establishing the public libraries nationwide… next to reading and listening rooms, there shall be other halls for seminars and theatrical and artistic performances in general… and so, all who cannot find space to practice such activities in schools and universities shall go to these libraries… in doing so, the public libraries will turn into focal points of collective and creativity activities in all Egypt… side by side with youth clubs and residences of public culture… here I wonder about the current status of these two since we are about to fulfill our hope in building the renaissance of our country!

Ambassador ar-Ridi, that 80-years-old young man full of energy with his agile mind always wondering, has exerted a big and distinguished effort in the field of establishing and fostering public libraries so that they do not disappear with time… and he is still trying hard to fulfill the hope of working on building the first thousand public libraries so that we can have one for every hundred thousand Egyptian citizens… such thing might seem unachievable if we compared the percentage to other countries we mentioned above however we hope we can begin the journey of thousand miles with a single step… this step is the establishment of thousand libraries.

In such regard, the brave city of Suez is waiting to be the first one of the governorates’ capitals to have such public library as a first step… I knew that the land is already available… only the entity that will fund such project is left… as to the content of the library, ambassador ar-Ridi has promised to provide all support to have an international level of quality… and so I ask Mr. Hesham esh-Sherif; minister of domestic development to foster such project so that the efforts of providing the possibilities of building the public library of Suez are done under the auspices of the ministry.

المكتبات العامة.. مفتاح النهضة والتحديث

تذكرت فيما كنت أقرأ مقالا للسفير المثقف، السيد عبد الرؤوف الريدي، بأهرام الجمعة الفائت، ما قرأته منذ زمن طويل، حول النهضة الأوروبية وكيف أن من أهم معالم بدايتها وانطلاقها، هو الجهد الذي قامت به أسرة "ميدتشي" التي حكمت في توسكانيا وفلورنسا في مطلع العصر الحديث، وهي أسرة آمنت ومارست الدور الحضاري والثقافي للثروة وللمسؤولين عن إدارة شؤون المجتمع، وذاع صيت أمرائها وفي مقدمتهم الأمير لورنزو العظيم الذي تواتر عنه أنه أعلن عزمه على بيع أثاث منازل آل ميدتشي، ليستكمل بناء المكتبات العامة في توسكانيا وفلورنسا!

لقد كتب السفير الريدي عن منابع الإرهاب وركز على دور المكتبات العامة في بناء صرح النهضة الحضارية والثقافية، وبالطبع العلمية والتقنية في مصر، ووجه الدعوة إلى البدء ببناء ألف مكتبة عامة في مصر، وهنا أقتبس نصيا من مقاله: ".. لأن وضع مصر الآن ليس فقط متدنيا في مجال المكتبات العامة بل هو متدن في مجال البحث العلمي... فحسب دليل Index المنظمة العالمية للملكية الفكرية، فإن مصر تقع في مرتبة قريبة من الأخيرة وتسبقنا الدول العربية باستثناء الجزائر واليمن، أما الإمارات فتحتل المرتبة الأولى، ويحتل الأردن المرتبة الثانية".

إنني ومن المنبر المتميز للرأي بصفحات الأهرام أضم صوتي وأدعو كل حريص على نهضة هذا الوطن أن يفعل الشيء نفسه، لكي تتصاعد المناشدة التي وجهها السفير الريدي للرئيس السيسي، بأن يدعم مبادرة الألف مكتبة عامة في مصر وأن يصدر قانونا يجعل القراءة حقا لكل مواطن، والمكتبة العامة حقا لكل تجمع بشري.. خاصة أن دولا كثيرة في العالم سبقتنا في هذا المضمار، إذ إن الهند مثلا يوجد بها مكتبة عامة لكل ثمانية وعشرين ألف نسمة، وأن إيران متقدمة عن الهند، والدولة الصهيونية متقدمة أكثر وأكثر!

إن أمل نهوض الوطن في كل المجالات يبدأ، فيما أعتقد، ببناء الوعي لدى مواطنيه بأهمية دورهم في تحقيق هذا الأمل، ومعلوم أن بناء الوعي وتعميقه كيفا وكما مرتبط بالثقافة، وقد تطورت وسائل القراءة وصارت الأسطوانة المدمجة أو "الفلاشة" التي يمكن تعليقها في ميدالية المفاتيح، تستطيع أن تحمل مئات من نصوص الكتب في كل المجالات، ولذلك ناديت في أكثر من مقال وأكثر من لقاء أن تبدأ حملة شعارها "فلاشة لكل فصل دراسي بالمدارس" لتحتوي تلك الفلاشة على كتب مختارة بعناية في موضوعاتها وفي مستواها لتتناسب مع الشريحة العمرية لمن سيطالعون محتواها!

ثم إنني أوسع مجال المناشدة ليصل إلى كل الميسورين من أبناء مصر، ولكل التجمعات المدنية من أحزاب سياسية وجمعيات غير حكومية وما على غرارها في الريف والبادية والمدن الصغيرة، كي نكتتب ونتجه لوزارة التنمية المحلية التي شاء القدر الطيب أن يأتي على رأسها عالم جليل وخبير رائد في المجال العلمي والمعلوماتي، ليتم إنشاء المكتبات العامة في ربوع الوطن، وتضم إلى جوار قاعات الاطلاع والاستماع قاعات للندوات وللتجارب المسرحية والإبداعية بوجه عام، فيلجأ إليها الذين لا تتسع لهم المدارس والجامعات، وتصبح المكتبة العامة هي محور الالتقاء الجمعي والحركة الإبداعية في أقاليم مصر، جنبا إلى جنب مراكز الشباب ومقرات الثقافة الجماهيرية، وكلتاهما أتساءل عن وضعها، بمناسبة أننا بصدد تحقيق الأمل في نهضة وطن!

لقد أدى السفير الريدي، وهو شاب ثمانيني مفعم بالحيوية ويقظة الذهن ودائم التساؤل والاندهاش، جهدا كبيرا ومتميزا في مجال إنشاء المكتبات العامة ورعايتها حتى لا تضمحل مع الزمن، ومازال يحاول بكل قوة لكي يستكمل الأمل بالعمل على إنشاء الألف مكتبة الأولى، ليكون لكل مائة ألف مواطن مصري مكتبة، وهو أمر قد يبدو غير مقبول، إذا قارنا بالنسبة في دول أخرى سبقت الإشارة إليها، ورغم ذلك فهو الأمل في كسر حاجز مشوار الألف ميل.. خطوة واحدة بألف مكتبة، وفي هذا الإطار فإن مدينة السويس الباسلة تنتظر أن تكون في مقدمة المدن من عواصم المحافظات، لكي تكون للمحافظة مكتبة عامة كخطوة أولى.. وقد عرفت أن الأرض موجودة، وتبقى الجهة التي ستمول البناء، أما المحتوى فقد تكفل السفير الريدي بالتعاون الجاد فيه، ليكون على أعلى مستوى عالمي!!..

ولذلك أتوجه للسيد الأستاذ الدكتور هشام الشريف، وزير التنمية المحلية، أن يرعى هذا الأمر، لتكون جهود توفير إمكانيات بناء المكتبة العامة بالسويس تحت رعايته وبمساهمة من الوزارة.

Searching for Judas… again

If it was milk spilt, we would not have cried… but it was blood… that of our folks spilt in the most sacred places… that is why we will cry… but maybe with one eye… to see with the other one who that Judas is who sells us for less than thirty silver coins… and also to perceive with vigilant eyes our way out of that mire!

We will not cry like Taifa kings of Andalusia did when they lost Andalusia after they were inflicted with political fragmentation… but rather we will cry like Amal Dunqol asked us to do in his poem… “we will not make reconciliation”… because those things are not to be compromised… memories of our childhood… between Ahmed, Muhammed, Mahmood.. and George, Gerges, Saydarous… we grew up together and suddenly felt manhood… like the poem says “that two swords fight for you… two voices speak for you… and that in case you died, someone will take care of your family… someone will take care of your kids as if he is their father”.

That blood spilt in Mar Gerges and Mar Murqos churches will not go in vain… we will not forget those clothes, floors, walls, chairs and altar shed with blood… therefore, we will not make reconciliation and we will not accept blood money… it is not an eye for an eye… not a tooth for a tooth… because they are not equal!... The head of that five-year-old child girl and that of the twenty-years-old young man… and others of our folks who martyred are not like those heads of those demons who know nothing about God… about mercy… about compassion… about nobility… about country… because they have no concepts or morals at all!

We will not make reconciliation because the one lives among us peacefully is not equal to another killing us!

We will not make reconciliation even if we were deprived sleep… we will not make reconciliation and we will not believe them even if they said they gave up politics and decided by their own will to let it go because blood has become now a sign and badge of honor.

We will not make reconciliation no matter what peace speeches they give… because we will not breathe that defiled air… we will not share food with those who killed us… because it is not our revenge alone… it is the revenge of generations after generations… tomorrow, our sons will take revenge for their martyred folks… they will bring justice out of the impossible!

We will not make reconciliation until the whole universe goes back to its ever-continuing cycle… stars to their exact timings… birds to their twitters… sands to their nuclei… and the martyred to his child daughter!

We will not make reconciliation because that who killed us is not a God to decide to end our lives…

We will not make reconciliation because reconciliation is an agreement between two rivals equal in honor… and the one who killed us is nothing but a thief who stole our security and safety… and who had no honor to keep!

We will not make reconciliation because there is no such thing with traitors… with Judas… any Judas in any county at any time… for those who do not know Judas, I repeat what I wrote two years ago… Judas is that disciple of Jesus… he decided to betray Jesus and delivered him to his enemies… enemies of justice and truth; the Sanhedrin… here we read in the Gospel of John, chapter 13 a depiction of the scene when Judas betrayal started and how prophet Jesus discovered this: “Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end. Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God“… Then we read in the same chapter: “… When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake. Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved. Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake. He then lying on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it? Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.“

We have to search for and know that Judas who pollutes the waters of the Nile, the soil and air… all that poison all plants and animals so that sick ailing generations, incapable of production or defending their country or even their lives, are born.

We have to search for that Judas that destroys the educational and research processes… and who injects poisonous ideas to our children and youth… so that they graduate holding the highest degrees while they cannot write a proper Arabic sentence or even master another language or have any ability to conduct creative research.

We search for Judas in the field of health services; meaning health of the Egyptian citizen… that traitor who produces medications empty of effective substance and who leaves the patients without care… who leaves the equipment coated with dust or corroded due to remissness… or who takes bribes in order to give people their fundamental rights… it is the same Judas everywhere… in industry… in agriculture… in commerce… in services… and every field.

What is more dangerous is that Judas who keeps dismantling and fragmenting our country into separate ghettos segregated based on religion, sect, or doctrine… also those who keep dismantling our country into sides and races and ripping our nation apart with social injustice claiming that capital has the right to make any revenues whenever it wants away from any social, cultural or civilization commitments.

What is most dangerous is that Judas who sheds the blood of our sons… in particular the army and police forces… also innocent people who die in such booby traps in the streets, on bridges and before schools, hospitals, banks and security check points.

It is Judas who facilitates establishing tunnels under our borders and gives a blind eye about them while he knows these tunnels are poisonous daggers that go deep in the very core of our nation ripping it apart… it is Judas who does not do his duty and learns nothing from what happened before… in doing so, he lets the most evil Judas gloats when he commits his crime in the same way again and again through the same gaps of remissness and not paying attention.

While searching for Judas, we have to notice carefully as maybe every one of us has his own Judas inside… that Judas who keeps discouraging us from doing something useful so that we do the same thing to others who are active… it is that Judas who pushes us to doubt everything… to downgrade any achievement done… and to belittle any effort exerted… also blackening our vision for the future to block the light from reaching our eyes and souls.

البحث عن يهوذا.. مجددا

لو كان المسكوب لبنا لما بكينا.. لكن المسفوح دم.. دم أهلنا في أقدس أماكننا.. لذا سوف نبكي.. ربما بعين واحدة، كي نرى بالثانية من هو يهوذا الذي يبيعنا بأبخس من ثلاثين فضة.. ولكي نبصر طريقنا نحو الخروج من هذا المستنقع!

لن نبكي مثلما بكى ملوك طوائف الأندلس عندما أضاعوا ما أضاعوا، ولكننا سنبكي مثلما طالبنا أمل دنقل كي لا نصالح.. لأنها أشياء لا تشترى.. ذكريات طفولتنا.. بين أحمد ومحمد ومحمود وبين جورج وجرجس وسيداروس.. وحسسنا معا وفجأة بالرجولة.. وأن "سيفان سيفك.. وصوتان صوتك.. وإنك إن مت: للبيت رب وللطفل أب!".

لن يصير الدم المراق في مار جرجس ومار مرقس ماء، ولن ننسى الأردية والأرضية والجدران والكراسي والمذبح الملطخ بالدماء.. لذا لن نصالح ولن نتوخى الدية!.. لن نصالح على الدم.. حتى بدم.. ولن نصالح ولو قيل رأس برأس، لأنه ليس كل الرؤوس سواء!!

فرأس الطفلة ذات الخمس.. ورأس الشاب ذي العشرين.. ورؤوس أهلنا الذين راحوا ليست كرؤوس أولئك الشياطين الذين لا يعرفون ربا ولا ذمة ولا رحما ولا رحمة ولا شهامة ولا نخوة ولا وطنا ولا أي معنى!

لن نصالح لأننا لن نساوي بين يد سيفها لنا وبين يد سيفها أثكلنا!

لن نصالح ولو حرمنا الرقاد.. ولن نصالح ولو قالوا إنهم تركوا السياسة وخلعوا بإرادتهم تاج الإمارة لأن الدم الآن صار وساما وشارة!

لن نصالح ولو قيل ما قيل من كلمات السلام، لأننا لن نستنشق النسيم المدنس، ولن نقتسم من قتلونا الطعام، لأنه ليس ثأرنا بل ثأر جيل فجيل، وغدا سوف يولد من يلبس الدرع كاملة ويستولد الحق من أضلع المستحيل!

لن نصالح إلى أن يعود الوجود لدورته الدائرة: النجوم لميقاتها.. والطيور لأصواتها والرمال لذراتها، والقتيل لطفلته الناظرة!

لن نصالح لأن الذي اغتالنا ليس ربا ليقتلنا بمشيئته..

لن نصالح فما الصلح إلا معاهدة بين ندين في شرف القلب لا تنتقص.. والذي اغتالنا محض لص سرق الأمن والأمان وهتك العهد واستباح العرض والأشهر الحرم!

لن نصالح لأنه لا صلح مع الخائن.. مع يهوذا أي يهوذا.. في أي وطن وأي عصر.. ولمن لا يعرفون يهوذا أعيد ما سبق وكتبته منذ عامين، فيهوذا هو ذلك الرجل من تلاميذ السيد المسيح له المجد، وقد تمكنت منه الخيانة، فسعى لتسليم المسيح إلى أعدائه.. أعداء الحق وخصوم الحقيقة.. نقرأ في إنجيل يوحنا الإصحاح الثالث عشر تصويرا للمشهد الذي بدت فيه خيانة يهوذا، وكيف كشفه السيد المسيح: «أما يسوع قبل عيد الفصح وهو عالم أن ساعته قد جاءت لينتقل من هذا العالم إلى الآب إذ كان قد أحب خاصته الذين في العالم أحبهم إلى المنتهي. فحين كان العشاء وقد ألقى الشيطان في قلب يهوذا سمعان الأسخريوطي أن يسلمه. يسوع وهو عالم أن الآب قد دفع كل شيء إلى يديه وأنه من عند الله خرج وإلى الله يمضي».. ثم نقرأ في الإصحاح نفسه ".. لما قال يسوع هذا اضطرب بالروح وشهد وقال الحق الحق أقول لكم إن واحدا منكم سيسلمني فكان التلاميذ ينظرون بعضهم إلى بعض وهم محتارون في من قال عنه. وكان متكئا في حضن يسوع واحد من تلاميذه كان يسوع يحبه فأومأ إليه سمعان بطرس أن يسأل من عسى أن يكون الذي قال عنه.." "أجاب يسوع هو ذاك الذي أغمس أنا اللقمة وأعطيه، فغمس اللقمة وأعطاها ليهوذا سمعان الأسخريوطي"!

لا بد أن نبحث عن يهوذا الذي يلوث ماء النهر والتربة والهواء ويسمم الزرع والضرع، كي تتوالد أجيال مريضة عليلة لا تنتج ولا تقدر على الدفاع عن ترابها الوطني وعن الحياة!

ولا بد أن نبحث عن يهوذا الذي يدمر العملية التعليمية والبحثية، ويقدم المناهج والأفكار المسمومة لأطفالنا وشبابنا فيتخرجون في الجامعات، ويحملون أعلى الدرجات، وهم لا يكتبون جملة عربية صحيحة ولا يجيدون لغة أخري، ولا يملكون أي قدرة بحثية خلاقة!

نبحث عن يهوذا في مجال الخدمات العلاجية والوقائية، أي صحة الإنسان المصري ذلك الخائن الذي ينتج دواء بلا مادة فعالة، ويترك المرضى بلا عناية، والمعدات يعلوها التراب أو يأكلها الصدأ والإهمال أو يرتشى مقابل حصول الناس على حقوقهم المشروعة.. وهكذا هو يهوذا في الصناعة والزراعة والتجارة والخدمات وكل مجال!

أما الأخطر فهو يهوذا الذي لا يتوقف عن تعميق وتوسيع خطر التفتيت والتفكيك، تفتيت الوطن إلى معازل منفصلة وفق الدين أو الطائفة أو المذهب، وتفكيك الوطن إلى جهات وأعراق وتمزيقه بالظلم الاجتماعي بدعوى حق رأس المال أن يكسب ما يشاء وفقما شاء دون أي التزام حضاري أو ثقافي أو اجتماعي!

والأشد خطورة هو يهوذا الذي يستحل لحم ودم أبناء الوطن، وفى طليعتهم قواتنا المسلحة والشرطة، وأيضا الأبرياء الذين يلقون حتفهم جراء تفجيرات القنابل في الشوارع وعلى الكباري، وأمام المدارس والمستشفيات والبنوك ونقاط الحراسة!

هو يهوذا الذي يسهل إقامة الأنفاق تحت الحدود ويتستر عليها، وهو يعلم أنها خناجر مسمومة تمتد في جسد الوطن، تمزق شرايينه وأوردته وأحشاءه، وهو يهوذا الذي يهمل ولا يتعلم الدرس ولا يستفيد من الخبرة، ويترك يهوذا الأكثر خيانة يشمت ويبتهج بأنه ينفذ الجريمة بالأسلوب نفسه مرة بعد مرة، نافذا من ثغرات الإهمال والاعتياد وعدم الانتباه.

ونحن نبحث عن يهوذا لا بد أن نلتفت إلى أنفسنا، فربما يكون داخل كل واحد منا يهوذا الخاص به.. يهوذا الذي يثبط همتنا من داخلنا فنعوق الآخرين النشطين عن أداء دورهم.. يهوذا الذي يحفزنا للتشكيك في كل شيء والسعي لتشويه كل إنجاز، والتقليل من شأن أي جهد، وطمس ملامح المستقبل بالسواد الكالح الذي يحجب الضوء ويطمس البصيرة ويعمي البصر!
